Shout Out To The Saints…

By whatsmyteam

If anyone read my comments and reports about The Saints in round 3 you would have noticed the running joke about how difficult the Saints were proving to communicate with. Their fans were telling me to get out while i can, their fan forum at saintsational.com was locking me in a limbo where i was registered but unable to post and the club’s marketing department wanted me to come back a week later. I thought my general tone was one of amusement – if anything, i felt that i’d felt something of the eternal frustration of being a Saints fan.

Seems some of the folks at Saintsational saw it differently decided to get a bit stuck into me yesterday.

When my blog records showed that over a hundred people had visited me from Saintsland yesterday, i thought i’d better get over there and see what they were saying.

Here are some of the better quotes:

“i dont buy into this guy … like its some kinda honour for us for him to be a saints supporter he needs to get over himself … your either a saint or you aint”

Yeah he’s figured out a great way to get invited to the footy each week for free. Seems like the ABC have fallen for i too putting out announcements each week asking for fans to take him to their game.”

i reckon let the bumbers have him he will fit in well with their fair weather supporters”

you can’t take something so emotive as barracking for a footy team and make it an analytical study… I suggest the guy get the hell over himself and put the team names into a hat or something.

sit down and watch each team play and see what one gets you cheering … that can be done in one week not this epic journey he go’s on about supporting a club is not about what the club can do for you its what you can do for the club”

It was actually a good thing for me in an odd kind way. I eventually managed to register over there and i hope that i managed to explain to them what i was doing and why. If you – like the Saints fans – are skeptical about all this you can read those comments and my responses in context for yourself if you look down this thread.

Anyhow, just thought i’d apologise to any Saints fans that were offended and that I’d acknowledge to all you here that we’d been talking over there.

Also, while i’m on the subject of the Saints, i thought i might bust out a trivia question that occured to me while i was researching the Saints:

What do St Kilda and the town of Holbrook, NSW have in common?

Answers in the comments section please. First correct answer wins bragging rights.

[EDIT: After the first comment, i need to make it clear that it's a trivia question not a Joke about Ross Lyon's coaching style :) ]

    Holbrook?
Is this some lame joke about the coaching style of Ross Lyon. Half way between Melbourne and Sydney?

We are not stuck in some backwater in NSW. We are back in town.

I should clarify that it is a genuine trivia question NOT a joke! Although, that Ross Lyon one isn’t bad…

a football team called the saints?

No one had a go it this!

The answer is that they both had to change their identity during world war one because they were too suspiciously German. Holbrook was originally called Germanton (bad idea when you’re fighting them) and the Saints colours of Red, White and Black were apparently temporarily changed during the war. Well, that’s what wikipedia said anyway.
