I went and saw Carlton play at the we-are whining-because-we-want-a-braadband-monopoly Dome on Friday night and my apologies to all the Carlton fans for doing so. Yet another club suffers a record loss at my hands. This time it was the wrong end of the Hawks biggest ever win over Carlton.
Is there any club that would actually think it’s a good idea to have me as a fan? I’ve basically spent the first half of the year denying that i’m a jinx, now i think it’s time to have a serious look at my form and fess up:
Kangaroos (L)
Essendon (W)
St Kilda (W)
Melbourne (L)
Hawthorn (L)
Richmond (L)
Geelong (W)
Brisbane (L)
Adelaide (L)
West Coast (L)
Carlton (L)
3 wins from 11 games. The scariest thing is that i am running against form here – i have seen every team in the top 4 and for only ONE win – Geelong. What can i say? Shocking. That gives me 12 points and puts me ahead of only Richmond and Melbourne on the ladder (Melbourne’s only win came when i went to see Adelaide play against them!)
Only the Western Bulldogs, Collingwood, Sydney, Port and Fremantle left to suffer at my hands.

Don’t forget Marcus, if you stick to Richmond, the only way to go from here is up! What could be better then following a team from bottom of the ladder to the top in a few years? Then you’ll see what the passion for football is all about – go Tiges. Faye

Ah, but Marcus, both games you’ve been to involving Essendon have seen wins for the mighty Dons – so it depends how you look at the “jinx”.

actually, i have seen three wins by the dons – two against them and one with them. i’ve also got a 100% record from two games with Geelong. So i am not bad luck for everyone!

Marcus, it’s so obvious to me that you’re going to choose Essendon. You have written the most about them and seem to be good mates with the unofficial cheer squad…very suspicious!
My team, the Cats, have also been successful when you’re watching, but you’ve dismissed them because they’re a measley hour down the road.
My disappointment in your choice of Essendon is mainly due to my innate hatred of that team, and its supporters, but seiously, think again – please!
P.S. it’s “definitely”, not “definately”.

Well, interesting theory (not the spelling bit – in which case you are right). I should run a poll about which team people think i will choose – but it might be fairer to wait until i’ve seen and/or jinxed them all)…
I would definately say that Essendon are my favourite team to play AGAINST because the grog squad are always good fun and good for a comment for the radio. That doesn’t mean i will pick them though – after all, why deprive myself of the fun of playing against them for the rest of my life…
As for Geelong, they’re right up there. They’re also the last team i saw win – all those weeks and weeks and weeks ago.

It will be great to have you back at the footy Marcus (congratulations on the ABC program by the way – look forward to seeing it).
Don’t forget though, you can get an instant thrill by jumping on, say, Geelong’s bandwagon (go Cats – great to see a Vic team up there), but they’ve had many years of ups and downs and their supporters, who have followed them through thick and thin, have earned their moment in the sun (or rain, depending on our September weather).
It’s the pride-shattering years of lows that make the highs so much better.
As long as you pick up on a Victorian team I know you’ll have a fun time in the future. All the best, Faye
